PUPPET MAKING STUDIO

This activity aimed to convey the deep history of the world heritage site Zeyrek dating from Byzatine times to children using hand-made puppets. It is designed by Çağla Tulukçu Arkman, who teaches at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. Each child that atttended this studio was given one character out of 11 characters who became a part of Zeyrek and worked on a cardboard puppet by ornamenting these with different colours and materials like beads and fabrics. The project team tried to foster the creativity within each child and they talked about the characters the children worked on by giving them details of the lives of these people, while the children concentrated on their works. The puppets have been a highlight of the whole project, needless to say.
